Spider – Customise Control Title and Descriptions

Available in Spider Version 2012.08.20.xxx and above.

PCSchool now provides the ability for schools to customise the title and description displayed for each control using the Quick Links Maintenance.

Once you click on this, you get the interface where it loads all the available controls for your spider.

Click on the title, to edit and change the text.

Once saved, the next login should load this new content.

Spider Security – Teacher Timetable

Available in Spider Version 2012.08.20.xxx and above.

PCSchool has implemented the teacher selection in TEACHER TIMETABLE. This is based on a security object that was released with a new version of pcschool.

 Security Object:

1106 – “Restrict timetable to user” – if the user has ACCESS to this object, then they cannot select other teachers in TEACHER TIMETABLE

Skinning the Spider

Available in Spider Version 2012.08.20.xxx and above.

‘Skinning’ the Spider refers to customising the look of the page with school logo/crest and colours. View the ‘Skinning the Spider’ Tech Tip.

Since releasing the tech tip at the 2012 PCSchool Conference we recieved a few suggestions. All these have been implemented in the new spider and will be released in Spider version 2012.08.20.xxx (or above). They include:

Spider Home Page Changes

  • If you want to change the logo in the main page #1, the skin to be used is Title_Logo located at App_Themes/PCSchool/PCSchool.skin
  • If you want to change the text or its color in #2, the skin to be used is Title_Text located at App_Themes/PCSchool/PCSchool.skin
  • If you want to change the text or its color in #3, then the skin to be used is Title_SubText located at App_Themes/PCSchool/PCSchool.skin
  • If you want to align the text in #2 to right/left/centre or change the background color use the skin TitleMainTextTableCell located at App_Themes/PCSchool/PCSchool.skin
  • If you want to align the text in #3 to right/left/centre or change the background color use the skin TitleSubTextTableCell located at App_Themes/PCSchool/PCSchool.skin

Spider Login Page Changes

  • For changing the text and its color in #1, the skin to be changed is LoginMainHeadingLabel located at App_Themes/PCSchool/PCSchool.skin
  • For changing the background color in #2, the skin to be changed is LoginMainHeadingTableCell located at App_Themes/PCSchool/PCSchool.skin

Controlling Access to Spider and PCSchool

8/2/2012 PCSchool have introduced the ability to set a users ability to login to PCSchool or Spider, based on the security setting of the equivalent user. Users are created in PCSchool Identity table and are assigned an Equivalent User in the PCSchool back end Security tables. Individual users can have their accounts locked by setting the Account Locked tick in the Identity Security Tab.  To disable the accounts of all users with a particular equivalence, disable the account of the Equivalent User. All users attached to that security user will then be denied access in both the Web Spider and PCSchool Back Office. We have now provided a check box as shown below. If ticked this will enable Spider Access even though the Security Equivalent account is locked. Use of this will enable schools to grant logins to the Spider while denying the same user login rights to the back office.
